My Story

"My tools of my trade are my years of experience, my vision together with my blog & podcast."
I studied for a licentiate diploma in speech and drama at Technikon Natal in the 80's, hoping of course to become a teacher. It was the best of times and the worst of times. I was thrust into a leadership portfolio after being elected to serve on the  SRC as the projects coordinator. With this I was somehow drawn into accepting a role of becoming a political editor of the campus newspaper which was called the Tech Times. It was a time of heightened political suppression by the Apartheid police. My passion for writing emerged whilst I was in matric  having had 4 of my poems  published in a teacher sponsored regional  competition which culminated in having student poems published into a book. I was placed overall 2nd in this competition.

Perhaps my highlight as an aspirant writer was when my own scripted  play which I wrote was chosen by my drama lecturer  to be the subject of an actual dramatical   performance. I was not much of an actor so I was drawn into directing the  play, together with my lecturer.
I knew that my passion was to write and to become a critical thinker. I doubt that the term thought leader was framed back then. It was my political activism in the UDF, which  really challenged my conscience, my consciousness and my experiment with what it means to be loyal to values as opposed to being loyal to a classified identity.

I was reborn as a student. I pursued business and for the next 25  years I was far removed from my passion to write. I owned a packaging company which merged with Nampak Corrugated, in Pietermaritzburg. I left the corporate world to return to the free thinking of  entrepreneurship. In my late 40s I returned to activism and I chaired what was the local chapter of the Active Citizens Movement. I joined the local structures of the ANC to pursue an interest in community  development and soon became a guest writer in the local community newspaper, called the Public Eye. I did not join the ANC as a member and I had no desire for political office. I became passionate about climate change, food security and transformational project  development.

I remodeled my packaging company to become an eco-packaging business. I also launched a business model to expand the science of smart  technology to develop community green energy, alternative water solutions and digital connectivity simply to place human dignity as a foundation of transformational projects. My business seeks to obtain grant funding to implement these  outcomes so that human dignity is not commoditized.

The last phase of my life is to be a visionary thought leader, social entrepreneur and change agent.
My tools of my  trade are my years of experience, my vision together with my blog & podcast.
The cycle is complete.

I return to writing and directing. I am reborn for the 3rd time as I partner with you to write a new chapter of change.
